The last thing which I will discuss in this Yamaha EF2000iS Review is the price of the unit.This really isn’t a cheap portable generator at all. In fact I would go so far as to say that it’s the most expensive portable generator which I have ever seen – however it is also most probably the best portable generator which I have ever seen as well. With so few cons to be mentioned and so many positive customer reviews you can be sure that this product will not let you down. If you need the best in terms of reliability, fuel efficiency, and overall quality then you should seriously consider the Yamaha EF2000iS.
 
The Yamaha EF2000iS is very fuel efficient. It has a one gallon fuel tank, which may seem small, but a full tank of gasoline will run this generator for more than ten hours in economy mode. That means it costs less than 35 cents an hour to operate and lasts long enough to get a good night’s sleep before refueling. Speaking of a good night’s sleep, this generator is extremely quiet. The diesel-powered generators used in the military during field operations are set into holes dug into the ground to suppress the noise they produce. It, in contrast, produces a light hum in economy mode and is only slightly louder at higher output levels. In fact, the noise level is so low that it fades into the background after a while and becomes barely noticeable.

The most impressive thing about this unit is how quiet it is. Even at full engine speed you can stand about 6 feet away and have a normal conversation without raising your voice, or talk on a cell phone without undue distraction. It features an "eco" setting which tapers down the engine throttle and noise when full load isn't required. At half-throttle or less, from about 6 feet away it is about half as loud and amazingly quiet. I used it to run a 50-amp 12v battery charger and at full charge level the charger only required the generator to operate at about half-speed, and when the charger tapered down the charge level to under 30-amps the generator became so quiet I literally forgot about it. It is MUCH quieter than my boat's inboard diesel engine, and more efficient than running the main engine just to top off the batteries. I also used it to power a heavy duty 120v grinder and it had no problems supplying the needed power, even on electric motor start-up.

One Amazon reviewer stated, after two years of regular use, “Have had zero problems with this unit so far.”

Didn't mind paying the extra money for what I thought was a decent generator. WRONG!!! It lasted for only one tank of gas and then refused to start again. It has been in the shop for FOUR MONTHS. Repair parts are coming very, very slowly. The issue is a bent valve... what could have caused that? Believe it or not we are now waiting for a head gasket. Who would not know what parts are needed for certain repairs? On top of that, their customer service guy Tye is non-reponsive, lazy and disinterested. Run away from ever buying any of their products!!!
